Dismissal time on Thursday, the 16th, and Friday, the 17th, is 11:45.

Christmas isn't even here yet, but there are a few things coming up in January that you need to know about:

• Sunday, January 9, will be the first of three Open Houses for prospective families.
• Geography Bee will be Tuesday, January 11th at 9:00 A.M. Chase McClure and Pate Smith are representing the 4th grade.
• Spelling Bee will be Tuesday, January 18th at 9:00 A.M. Garrett Earls and Paul Kelley are representing the 4th grade.
• 4th Grade Field Trip to Atlanta on January 19th (We will leave before school and return about 3:30. We will need parent drivers.)
• Book Report #2 due will be due Feb. 9th. You may want to go ahead and choose a book and get started reading it.  More details will come home Tuesday, January 4, 2011.

Dear Elementary Choir Parents,
      Our Christmas musical is quickly approaching and I just wanted to communicate some details to you before we head into the next few weeks. As you all know, the 4th, 5th, and 6th graders will be performing “How the Grouch Found Christmas.” The performance is Thursday, December 2nd at 6:30 in Trojan Hall. The 6th grade cast members will need to report to the lunch room in costume by 5:45 that evening. The 4th and 5th graders will need to report to the lunch room by 6:00.
      All 4th and 5th grade choir members will be required to wear khaki pants and either a Christmas sweater or short-sleeved polo in red, green, yellow, or white. Embroidered polos that are part of your child’s uniform are fine as long as they are either red, green, yellow, or white. I do not want anyone to have to go out and purchase anything if at all possible.
      I am so looking forward to the show. The students have worked so hard to prepare and it is going to be a wonderful evening. Thank you in advance for your support and attendance that evening. It means so much to the children and to me that we have such tremendous “fans” in the audience every year. All Things Orange Party (Pumpkin Party)

    Wednesday is our All Things Orange (Pumpkin) Party. It will begin at 2:15. Everything is ready to go, so if you haven't been contacted about bringing something, don't worry.  The Grade Moms will catch you for the next party!

    

THURSDAY IS SPIRIT DAY!

Thursday is Spirit day in the Elementary school. Students may wear clothes that demonstrate Tattnall school spirit. We will also have an Elementary Pep Rally from 2:15-2:40 to recognize students that have participated in Elementary Football and Elementary Cheerleading.

The Bibb County Board of Commissioners is encouraging Trick or Treating on Saturday, October 30, 2010 between the hours of 5:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Parents should take an active role in chaperoning their children during trick or treating activities. We encourage residents participating in distributing candy to remember to keep their homes well lit. Trick or Treaters are advised to only visit homes that have their porch or exterior lights on.

Reminders

Report cards for the 1st quarter will come home Friday, October 15 in the Friday Folder. Please return the folder, but report cards do not need to be signed and returned.

Remember Trojan Legion meeting is Tuesday night. Please return your dinner order form if you plan to eat.

The Chapter 1 Social Studies test is on Wednesday, October 20. Check the Test Alert for hints on what to study.

What a great study site!

Added to the Social Studies box on the left of the screen, is the publisher's website for our textbook.  The e-word game is a great review of vocabulary for the chapter. Check it out!

AR Points

4th Grade News

A few reminders:

   WOW ~ would you look at all the October birthdays? If you are planning to send something for your child's birthday, please contact us a week in advance. Remember to send paper products.

   The Talent Show is Sunday and Monday, October 3 and 4.  Our own 4th grader Paul Kelley will be competing. Come out and show your support!

   Next Wednesday, there will be NO HONOR CHOIR practice after school.  Mrs. Wallace is auditioning 6th graders for the Christmas production.

   If your child is dropped off before 8:00 and doesn't need to eat breakfast, he or she must be in the Media Center lobby area, not the gym.  Please remind your child of where to be before you let them out of the car. 

   If your child is going to be out for an appointment during the morning time, please let us know the day before so that make-up work can be completed ahead of time.  If your child needs to leave early, please let us know that morning, if possible, so that we can have them ready at the time you need them.

   Fall finally seems to be here and that means coats and jackets will be arriving at school. Put your child's name, or at least initials, on the tag of any sweater, sweatshirt, or jacket that they might take off sometime during the day.Lost items with no name are difficult to recover.

It's been almost 2 weeks???

Wow ~ there are times when it seems like the days are put in fast-forward and all of a sudden, you realize it's been a whole week (or longer in this case!)  Let's try to get caught up:

Thursday: First Field Trip 

We are headed to the Museum of Arts and Sciences. Drivers/chaperones are 

lined up and we will pull out at 12:15.  Check back for new pictures!

Friday: Progress Reports will come home in Friday Folders. The average includes grades through Sept. 10.  The Progress Report must be signed and returned on Monday, Sept. 20 with Signed Papers. We do not have enough grades yet in Social Studies for an average; we will send that next Friday, Sept. 24. 

Next week is Homecoming!

There will be a school wide Pep Rally at 2:00 on Friday.  Elementary students will be in the Pep Rally from 2:00-2:30.  Your child will not be allowed to stay longer unless you are with him/her or we have a note stating who is responsible for your child at the Pep Rally. Your child will be dismissed to that adult. This is for your child's safety. Thank you for understanding!

Magazine Sale Update:

If your child qualified for the "Games 2 You" event with 8 magazines sold on the first turn-in day OR 12 magazines sold over the 3 weeks, then you need to know that event will be held on Tuesday, September 28 after lunch.  More details later . . .

Oops . . .

One thing was left off of Friday's Reminders.  If you chose an extra school supply from the wipe-board (apple shaped post-its in Mrs. Ford's room, and parrot shaped post-its in Mrs. Crumbley's), please be sure to send those items by this Friday, August 27. Thanks!

Friday Reminders

• Additional carpool tags are in your child's folder today.  If you need more than 2, please make a black and white copy.  Carpool tags should be on the visor of the vehicle. Thanks!
• Dress code: boys shirts are to be tucked in all day and a belt should be worn.  No clothing with holes or frayed edges please :)
• The first magazine turn-in day is Wednesday, August 25.  Let's work hard and meet our goal as soon as we can!!

Contact Paper

There is some contact paper available in the TSA Bookstore. Mrs. Ford also has one extra roll she purchased that is up for sale! You probably won't need a whole roll if you buy a large one, so it may be possible to share a large roll. 

Workbooks need to be covered as soon as possible, but we understand that it may be hard to find at this time of the year. Eventually, stores will get some more. Just keep an eye out for it, but please don't drive all over town looking.

Elementary Football

Wednesday is the deadline for boys in 1st-6th grade to register for elementary football.  Registration forms are available in Mrs. Watson’s office, in Mrs. Cheek’s office, and in Mrs. Joyner’s office. Tryouts are this Saturday, August 21.  Players should report to the athletic complex 15 minutes prior to  their tryout time.  Tryouts, weigh-in, and equipment issue are on the soccer field.

Mites (1st and 2nd grade) - 10:00
Juniors (3rd and 4th grade) - 11:00
Seniors (5th and 6th grade) - 12:00

Friday the 13th

Well, it may be Friday the 13th, but it's been a great day here in 4th grade! We have been very busy learning routines and generally getting to know each other better.  The students have had Art and PE today, as well as the excitement of going to lunch!

Friday Folders are coming home today. Please be sure to go through the information thoroughly-there is a good bit of it! There are several things that need your signature and there is a "Newsletter" from us.

Final Notes . . .

WOW! The last days of school are here!  It has been a great year and the children have really learned a lot. Today we signed autograph books and tomorrow we will sign Field Day t-shirts.

Remember: Wear Field Day t-shirts tomorrow with uniform shorts or skirts.  Please send a sharpie if you can for the students to sign their classmates shirts and to have theirs signed, too.

Our breakfast today was yummy and we look forward to tomorrow's breakfast treats! Thank you for getting this together for your children.

Wednesday morning, students are to report to class at 8:00 as usual.  We will bring them to Trojan Hall at 10:20. Fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students will sit in the front rows, on the left and right. Parents may sit in the middle section or behind the students.  Report cards will be handed out after the Honors Day Program.

Be on the lookout for Summer Reading information ~ make plans now for visiting the public library over the summer.

As warmer weather arrives, we wanted to remind you of a few dress code policies.  Boys need to have their uniform shirts tucked in all day.  If their shorts/pants have belt loops, a belt should be worn.  Chapel day shirts are to be white, yellow, or royal blue.  On Fridays, girls need to wear shorts and skirts of an appropriate length (fingertip-length is a good rule).  Also, girls may only wear spaghetti strap shirts with an overshirt.  The overshirt must be worn all day.  Sleeveless shirts are acceptable. We do have PE on Friday, so if your child wears sandals, she needs tennis shoes to change into for PE.

Welcome Spring Break!!!!

        Friday was great fun with the Easter Egg Games, a picnic lunch (inside), and then Jump Rope for Heart!  The early tally on money raised by TSA elementary students is over $5000.  Thank you parents and students!!

        Just a reminder . . . We do not come back to school until TUESDAY, April 6.  We earned an extra day after Spring Break because we reached our goal on the magazine sale held back in the fall.

        When we return, because it is a 4 day week, we will not have a reading story, spelling list, or spelling test.  We will spend the week writing a persuasive essay.  The topic is one about which the students will be passionate!

         Pictures will soon be uploaded from the Easter Egg Games and Jump Rope for Heart.
         Our next field trip will be on April 20, 2010 to Carlyle Place.  We will deliver plants in student-decorated pots as well as play games with the residents. It should be a fun day!

Tomorrow is St. Patrick's Day!

Students are allowed to wear green shirts that are not the standard Tattnall uniform shirts.  We want to keep distractions to a minimum during testing but just allowing green shirts should not cause any problems. Uniform on the bottom (pants, skirts, shorts, etc) is still expected.

Peek at the Week 

March 15-19

~ ITBS begins Monday. Each child needs at least three sharpened #2 pencils. Ask your child about this because we sharpened new pencils Friday and some of your children already have enough. Please help your child to be ready for testing by getting a good night's sleep and a healthy breakfast.

~ We will not have new spelling words or a reading story next week.  

~ Remember to sign and return the Jump Rope for Heart permission slip. This needs to be returned even if your child does not plan to raise money. We want everyone to be able to have an afternoon of fun on Friday, March 26th.

~ Your child received a copy of the book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. We read the first 2 chapters in class. There is a letter in the Friday Folder about this book that must be signed and returned.

~ Remember next Friday night is Tattnall's 40th Year Celebration. This will be a fun evening and we hope to see you all there.

~ Spring Break is quickly approaching!  This year, it will be March 27 - April 5.  That includes the Monday after Easter, which is our Magazine Sale Holiday.

REMINDERS!

These are just a few reminders for this week:
~ Valentine cards should be brought to school on Friday. Please be sure there is one for every student in your child's class. We will give time to deliver cards to the other class if you choose to make them for the whole 4th grade.
 ~Tests this week are Reading on Wednesday, Math and Spelling on Thursday, and Language on Friday.

 ~ This Friday is the final due date for forms and payment for our trip to Atlanta. Please be sure to send a payment when you send the form if you are planning to go to the Braves game.
~Remember that next Monday and Tuesday, February 15-16 are school holidays. There will be no   Spelling lesson or test next week. We will do a reading story in class, but will not be tested over the story.

Take Note . . . next week will be a bit on the hectic side !!

Tuesday the 2nd is PINK OUT day. If your student bought a Pink- Out shirt, he/she may wear them to school with jeans or other typical Friday dress. If you did not purchase a Pink Out shirt for your child, he/she can wear Friday dress on a Tuesday! 

On Friday the 5th, in honor of Grandparents' Day, students will wear uniform dress.

Also, with basketball season winding down remind your children that if they come to the games, they need to be inside the Athletic Complex and not outside. There will be a Deputy present at next Tuesday's game to help with this situation, but with larger crowds expected for the next several games, we want to ensure the students' safety.

In order to do that, students need to be inside.

Open House for Prospective Families is Sunday, February 7th.  There are 2 "Open Campus" days in the following weeks.  Please tell your family and friends that may be considering TSA for next year. For more information, please contact Lynne Adams.

Finally, there are plans for a 40th year anniversary celebration the weekend of March 19-20.  Several fun events are planned so be on the lookout for more details!

Christmas Show and Tell!

As a reminder, tomorrow (Wednesday, January 6) will be our special Christmas gift Show and Tell.  Your child may bring something he/she received at Christmas, but it must fit in his/her backpack.

 Today, we read chapters 1 and 2 of a new book, Mr. Popper's Penguins.  Your child has a form for you to sign about this book. Please ask for it. Thanks!
