It's Christmas Time in Fourth Grade

We have been very busy making all kinds of Christmas ornaments and crafts. We have even worked on a special gift for parents! In addition to making special things for ourselves, we have also worked on making  lap blankets for our friends at Carlyle Place. The children are anxiously waiting for our visit there on Monday, where we will sing carols and deliver our gifts.

Happy Thanksgiving!

WOW! WE ate and ate and ate during our Thanksgiving Day Feast. Thank you SO much for all the delicious things you sent. There were a few leftovers, but not many. Here are a few pictures for you to see:

Ministering to Carlyle Place

After delivering "Happy Fall" cards in October to the residents of Carlyle Place, the students were asked to participate in a coloring contest! Then the residents voted on their favorites.   Well, several of our Carlyle Place friends came Wednesday afternoon to award prizes for the coloring contest. EVERYONE received a yummy treat and a special congratulations goes to Zayne and Ellie for winning the coloring contest!

We are looking forward to our Christmas project for the residents of Carlyle Place.  We will be making lap blankets. We will need some extra hands the day we assemble them, so be on the lookout for an "I Can Help" form!  On December 14, we will carol, deliver the blankets, and enjoy a special snack with the residents.  Watch for a field trip form when we get back from Thanksgiving holidays.

4th Grade Leads Chapel!

Today, the 4th grade lead in Chapel. We sang "Here Am I to Worship" and "Joy, Joy, Joy, Down in my Heart." Then, Mr. Collins spoke. He chose students from the audience to help him tell the story of The Prodigal Son. Our own Katie Britt helped throw the party and Hayden Odum was the hard-working older brother. It was great fun!

First Day of Fall

Well, it's been an eventful week ~ and today's only Wednesday! Yesterday, we enjoyed tasting "Eleanor Roosevelt's Pink Clouds on Angel Food Cake" and today we celebrated the first full day of Autumn by making scarecrows (Mrs. Ford's class) and Fall Leaves using food coloring (Mrs. Crumbley's class). Pictures will be up as soon as we can figure that out!

Both classes are working hard on their class stories, but it's slow moving when we write just one day a week. Then again, I thought the boys and girls would want to write a quick little story and be done. Instead, both classes are asking questions like: Where should we divide it to make chapters? Can we get it published? Are we going to sell it and make some money? I am anxiously looking forward to seeing where these stories go and then letting the students write their own narratives! They will be able to decide the characters, setting, and plot and then write, write, write.

Algebra is the word of the week in Math. This week we started working on expressions and though they were a bit intimidated at first, the boys and girls have really jumped in and gotten the hang of it! A new word we've learned is "variable."  Ask your child to make up some expressions with a variable for you to solve!

We are enjoying our unit on the Solar System and are looking forward to learning something new at the Museum next week.  If we ever have a clear night again, you can go outside and look up at the sky. Ask your child to explain how to tell which of those sparkly lights are planets and which are stars.
