Well, it's been an eventful week ~ and today's only Wednesday! Yesterday, we enjoyed tasting "Eleanor Roosevelt's Pink Clouds on Angel Food Cake" and today we celebrated the first full day of Autumn by making scarecrows (Mrs. Ford's class) and Fall Leaves using food coloring (Mrs. Crumbley's class). Pictures will be up as soon as we can figure that out!
Both classes are working hard on their class stories, but it's slow moving when we write just one day a week. Then again, I thought the boys and girls would want to write a quick little story and be done. Instead, both classes are asking questions like: Where should we divide it to make chapters? Can we get it published? Are we going to sell it and make some money? I am anxiously looking forward to seeing where these stories go and then letting the students write their own narratives! They will be able to decide the characters, setting, and plot and then write, write, write.
Algebra is the word of the week in Math. This week we started working on expressions and though they were a bit intimidated at first, the boys and girls have really jumped in and gotten the hang of it! A new word we've learned is "variable." Ask your child to make up some expressions with a variable for you to solve!
We are enjoying our unit on the Solar System and are looking forward to learning something new at the Museum next week. If we ever have a clear night again, you can go outside and look up at the sky. Ask your child to explain how to tell which of those sparkly lights are planets and which are stars.
