The Magician's Nephew

Big news in Reading today! We are putting away our reading book for a few weeks because we are beginning The Magician's Nephew by C.S. Lewis.  This book is part of the Chronicles of Narnia series and chronologically, it is first. Many of the curious things about Narnia, for instance, a lamp post in the forest, are explained in this book. A few other things to know...

• Each student will have his/her own copy of the book. The cost of the book was included in the Elementary Fee at the beginning of the year.
• Students will be writing and making notes in their books using colored pencils. Most of this we will do in class.
• This is their textbook and must be brought to school daily. It would be good for students to reread what was read in class each day, but please do not read ahead! We are making important predictions using textual clues about what we think will happen and it's hard to predict when you know what is going to happen. 
• Students will be writing brief summaries for most of the chapters (4-5 sentences) which will be modeled in class.
• After every 3 or 4 chapters, students will have a question sheet to complete for a grade. It will count as a daily grade, and I will let them know ahead of time when those are coming up in class.
